A brief interview with Kallie:

Q: Why do you love to teach so much?

A: The enthusiasm of students, openness to new ideas and their inherent curiosity and creativity. Students give me ideas for new books to write!

Q: What do you like to teach?
A: I love to teach anything related to literature! As an editor for a publishing house that focuses on children’s books and re-illustrated classics, I love to inspire students to love the classics as well as help students to bring their own stories to life. I have been teaching kids how to connect with literature and write their own tales for many years now. For the older kids (i.e. adults) I love to teach how to write picture books! I have been teaching courses at CAPP University this past year and holding workshops at various conferences.

Q: What cool things have you done lately related to the camps you are teaching?
I just spent a week up at Fort Saint John’s doing a writers in residence. All the students were incredibly inspiring and they were focused throughout the week on writing stories that featured misfit creatures, much like the misfit mermaid in my book, The Melancholic Mermaid. I’m also currently retelling some classic fairy tales for publication, amidst a multitude of other projects!
